Banjo Ron

Home > About us > Ron

Ron Johnson is our multi-instrumentalist wonder.  Ron can play every instrument that everyone in the band can play, and he picks up a new instrument every year or so.   He practices quietly and introduces an astonishing tasty lick, a surprising vocal harmony, and another song.  Ron plays a Vega banjo (rebuilt from a 4-string), a Galveston bluegrass banjo, a Regal dobro, a Lyle guitar, a Bastari concertina, and many other instruments.

He started off playing electric guitar and bass with several rock and folk music bands, including the Blue Sky Ramblers.  Ron is a scholar of old country, bluegrass, and folk-rock songs, and has been playing 5-string banjo since he was a teenager.  He has a large record and CD collection of folk rock, instrumentalists, country, rock, and banjo picks.

Our only complaint with Ron is that he can't play two or three instruments at once.  Ron is also our CD producer, and his expertise can be heard in every track.
