Across
the street from the Akron-Summit County Public Library parking deck, nestled
between the Crave and Jacob Good buildings, off of East Market Street, sits the
Mocha Maiden Art Gallery and Coffee Shop. It is one of Akron's newest and best
kept secrets. Inside, you'll find a vast array of historical pictures and
artwork including some of the maidens painted by Alphonse Mucha, the inspiration
for the Mocha Maiden.
The dimly lit main room gives a feeling of candlelight, making the artwork glow
as it hangs from the stone walls. To the left, a door leads to a stage and a
full service bar where local bands, musicians, poets and other talents put on
shows. This is the awesome venue where the Tofu Fighters rocked the house. The
place was packed, the dance floor was jammin', and friends and strangers talked,
laughed, and tipped a few. We played originals and rock 'n roll favorites so
folks could dance and sing along. It was too much fun! You can read more about
Musica, Mocha Maiden, and the growing downtown district at www.1akron.com
